For Ann Cecilia Gilbourne (nom spirituel Anni Shakti), Yoga has always been part of life. As a child, she was first exposed, going to classes alongside her mother, which inspired her curiousity into yoga and spiritual traditions. She enjoyed the full study of yoga; the alignment and discipline of the asana practice, the meditation practices and yogic lifestyle practices taught in Ayurveda. She was fortunate to study with many great teachers from varying traditions along the way. Her teacher training in Anusara Yoga (an offshoot of Iyengar), plus other trainings in Vinyasa, Yin, Bikram, Kundalini and Vipassana Meditation influence her unique approache to the practice.
Music has also played a large role in Anni Shakti's life and influences her teaching. Her musical studies brought her to France for the first time when she was 16yrs old, to study at the Conservatoire de Musique in Montpellier. She brings music into her yoga classes, where she uses singing bowls to guide students deeper into their bodies.
She began teaching Yoga in 2005 in the USA and her love of teaching continues to inpire and motivate her path and study. It is important for her to share and stay connected to the deep love, joy and peace of our true nature, which connects us. Mother to 3 little girls, she is grateful for the teachings of yoga and the great rise in yoga explorers around the world.
